REQUIRED: Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H) OR Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification. High school education. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. Current knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes. Understanding of computerized groupers, APCs and Medicare LRMPs. Experience or a Bachelors degree in Health Information Management. Responsible for coding Outpatient accounts for Medicare, Medicaid and other Insurance companies. Reviewing medical necessity checks to secure financial sponsorship and account payment on Medicare accounts. Utilizing ONTRAC work list, operating knowledge of OMEGA, thoroughly understanding the Ancillary Coding Situation Response Guidelines. Maintaining zero backlogs in ONTRAC based on Due Diligence Guidelines, developing contacts at physician offices to enhance account securing, practicing strong customer service while involving physician offices in the process as necessary. Making decisions, responding to questions, and forwarding information to referring physician payers, patients, and other hospital staff in an independent and appropriate manner.
