Responsibilities: Meeting with patients while in the Emergency Department and in the hospital to identify and verify the method of payment and debt resolution for all inpatients and some outpatient accounts. Answering account questions for walk in and telephone customers. Posting payments received from customers, lock box and other designated areas throughout the hospital. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree from a recognized college or university in Business or Health Care related field preferred. Must have previous cashier, hospital registration, or hospital financial counseling experience. (Prefer 2-3 years of solid Financial Counselor background). Experience both as a registrar and as a cashier/financial counselor in a hospital setting preferred. HFMA certifications in Certified Patient Account Representative, and/or, Certified Patient Financial Counselor and fluency in a second language a plus. Must understand insurance benefits and possess the ability to relay this information to physicians, nurses and patients in a method they will understand. Must possess a good understanding of Medicare, Medicaid and group health insurance plan guidelines and regulations. Must have good communication and customer service skills, must be able to read, write, and follow directions. Must possess the ability to establish priorities effectively and to be self-directed and capable of working without direct supervision in a fast-paced environment. |
